Theater for State Road A1a and Las Olas, Fort Lauderdale Beach

Presented by Kevin M. Tarr, Resident of Fort Lauderdale, background in Architecture and Master Planning. .

Project:: Vacant Lot on Beach State Road and Las Olas Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale.  Last bid was for four story garage. Which was rejected by Major and local residents.

Subject: City owned property benefits of full time outdoor theatre on the beach.

To: The future supporters of LOA

                     It is my biggest welcoming to a project that will bring such life and vibrancy to the City of Fort Lauderdale Beach as well a entertainment venue for South Florida as a whole. With film showings we can be the next Canne with Film Festivals. The Stage is set for various performances which are to range from daytime show for children such as magic shows to puppets and more.This will allow for various Fort Lauderdale hotel’s to have a rain day option.  Not to mention full theatrical performances on a grand stage with full backstage under structure.Other Events can include musical performances, boxing, comedy shows. And the best part of Las Olas Amphitheatre is the big screen. A large movie screen that play live events such at The Met has had so much success with. Picture

after approval watching night tennis matches, or Olympics even the World Series and Super bowl in a place like this. 1 Restaurant, 1 Lounge and plenty of seats. Maybe one day Fort Lauderdale will be able to hold an Film Festival on an International scale.

             The hidden sub level which is actual ground level is under the entire site. Under the 2 story terraced entrance.  Full kitchen for 3rd and 4th floor restaurant and lounge  as well as for special occasions and private parties. Even hidden bridal and groom suites. Performers holding room, Staging area. All out of site under terraced structure. This level will also house access to parking garage for a hidden loading zone.

Sponsors and organizations will have to be hand picked. Entertainment Industry, Local hotel and corporate. Local Las Olas Organizations as well as residents of the Beach Community.

Community

Schedule of concerts are planned well in advance as to receive community approval of what is permitted. Among the committee will be members will be made of City members, Hotel Representatives and local beach community. The events should cover a large audience as to attach the most money possible. Placing Musical events at 4pm is a possibility as well as Musical concerts only on Fri and Sat Evenings. Also the theatre can be designed as to shield parts of neighborhood and project music towards the water which is why is it formed in a J fashion.

Las Olas Amphitheatre

              The following are schematic drawings to illustrate a new structure on Fort Lauderdale Beach. The problem occurred when the City of Fort Lauderdale was trying to find a vista or Gateway to the beach on a property on the beach and Las Olas Boulevard.  Hence a small structure four floors but open and terraces up. The center stage is huge enough for almost any theatrical performance. The entire stages acts like elevator to decline to sub stage. Set in 3 separate elevators. This allows for changing of set design.

With the 2 story sub level the structure comes to 6 stories. But since the top four level are

completely open, this will allow a more open structure allowing the sun to pass through.

The need to design a retractable roof is important since during summer months one does not want to cancel performances due to some rain.

1st Floor - Orchestra seats  - Stage

2nd Floor - Full Mezzanine and Box Balcony seats and Balcony seats

3rd Floor - Bar and Lounge - With outdoor tables and couches and viewing seats

4th Floor - Full Time Restaurant - With outdoor tables and seating and  viewing seats.

Basic concept J shaped facing stage and Ocean.

Purble is stage, declines to 3 separate elevator floors. Front part of stage lowers to form Full Orchestra capacity.Stage lowers to  14 foot back substage and loading dock. Actors room. Director’s office. Secret Kitchen. Stage loading area. Security. Guest parking. All Under double platform throughout site footprint. Two levels under Platform.

                                  1 and 2nd Level - Hidden under Terrace: Kitchen, Backstage, Loading dock, etc.

1st Floor ~ Orchestra level is huge. With 2 lower musical pits and 3rd as front part of stage lowers allowing for full orchestra. When arriving you must climb two rows of long stairs, note: ramp and lift available. After climbed long terrace reach open lobby. With Core structure on Left and all open on Right. The core structure with elevator, restrooms and open stairs on either end of core. All to the right is open. Orchestra seats and stage viewed from lobby. To the East the Ocean.

2nd level is full Mezzanine Lobby. Full time seats Mezzanine under 3rd floor. Large Balcony no roof and smaller 4 row box seats on long balcony.

4th -The Restaurant on the top level open year round with 4th floor terrace. Seats or tables under canopy.

3rd - Longue area, a bar open year round  with 3rd floor terrace with tables and couches.

        Both 3rd Floor Lounge and 4th Floor Restaurant supplied with food from

        Secret Kitchen under Terrace.

1st floor - From sidewalk the building Terraces up with 2 rows of stairs. Optional retail on West side allows for traffic around theatre. Placed after Corner Garden. Retail stores  then Valet and Garage Entrance along Southern end of the property.

The Core Northern structure forms open stairs at either end. With elevator shaft center supported by two restrooms on either side. Small coat room/Box office/security room on first floor.

14 feet Ceiling under stage floor is heart of building supplying food for Restaurants, waiting area for performers. Loading area and staging area for elevator stage.

Below Section shows first floor as Back stage for production. Mostly hidden placed under the double terrace surrounding theater. On the South side of Basement is secret kitchen for 4 and 3rd floors. And Delivery entrance staging via the long garage on South Side.

              The property use as an amphitheatre  or open theater can be multifunctional. From 2 floors as separate Restaurants/Club, opened daily year round.. And the Stage for full theatrical products, musicals, ballets to Comedy shows . Also Boxing can be another platform as well as live events on the “Big Screen” such as World Cup, Tennis, Olympics. The performances for audiences as well as adding a wedding or private party as an option on the 4th and 3rd floor with use of grand stage and orchestra floor. Makes this outdoor theater on the Beach an addition to Fort Lauderdale  beach like no other. For a city owned property, this structure can bring become a Huge cash flow.

The Big Screen

The Met Opera, World Soccer, Super bowl, Olympics and more live events broadcasted on extra large screen.

a club with 50 foot wide projection screen. To show movies or live events. A lounge or private club to attend for your viewing pleasure. A wide screen with your favorite opera live at the MET. beach now on a terrace at table overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. From Movie festivals to full International Film Festival.

The Big Screen is and was a concept designed  by Kevin Tarr while working at HBO Inc. It calls for a large screen to view live events. With the addition of a club like atmosphere. With comfortable seating with Lounge and Restaurant. A full service Club and theater built into one complex.

The Big Screen and the Theater mixed becomes something out of the ordinary. The Las Olas Amphitheatre will bring to Fort Lauderdale beach something new and exciting. Giving the nearby hotels an added attraction.

Note: If I was not using Mac Paint software, the illustrations would have looked much better. But the concept is what the beach needs. I bring my ideas to the City of Fort Lauderdale as I have a background in Architecture and Master Planning. These ideas are to help the City not make mistakes in there planning. A four story garage on the beach was that mistake which drove me to design L.O.A..

Central Parking Structures allowing automobiles off the Beach Community.

The sound from Auto’s, Trucks and Motorcycles can be very annoying while on the beach. Getting some cars to park as soon

as exit bridge allows for less traffic. Less hunking...etc.

 I believe they way State Road A1a is today is fine. The Beach road is going to need four lanes of traffic. Two lanes going North and two lanes going south. With the addition of new Hotels, Residences or boutique casinos on the beach traffic will only grow. The Intercoastal will see new taller buildings and the North Beach Community will also grow. So keep four lanes with bike lanes as in.

Any change to one lane traffic will only make congestion and honking.

Parking structures placed in four locations. Bridge Traffic East has entrances to two large parking structures.

North and South of the Las Olas Bridge. Providing Less Auto traffic on the beach. Park and get valet service to the beach of your choice. Free Tram Service and paid rickshaw  will provided full beach moving. Passing Hotels Ritz Carlton, Westin, W hotel, The Altantic, Bahia Mar and B ocean, the Hilton and Other new Hotels and Boutique Hotels.

With public pool and tennis club, City Garden Park. Fitness Center.

Automobile traffic lessened on the Beach. If people bring umbrellas and coolers..etc.The Tram access the beach State Road A1a. Will have to be Disney styled cars with storage on roof. Smaller Rickshaw bikes...and pickup truck for moving beach stuff. Valet Beach service.

North Marina and South Marina will have two large parking structures. Two levels each. With Tram stops built into parking garage with waiting area covered inside building.

What is on top of the 2 story parking garage - Marina North and Marina South of Las Olas Bridge is the question.

3rd Floor a full Fitness Center. With Lockers and steam rooms. Terraces facing intercoastal for yogo area and outdoor fitness areas. The addition of a full service gym will please the local hotels with smaller facilities. The use of tennis courts on 4th floor terrace will also be beneficial to the hotels.

Note: The Zoo gym on A1a will most likely close in coming years. The beach front property will most likely be demolished leaving no full service gym for the Beach Community, Las Olas and Marina Yachts on Intracoastal. The Need for a new and improved gym is much needed.

This structure on the South side of Las Olas Bridge on the intercoastal will house an all suite tower, and large townhouse suites. The need for more than 3 bedroom in local hotels is scarce. Marina South houses 4 - 6 bedroom 2 story townhouses. Facing South on Intracoastal. Allowing housing for people with an entourage or extended family.

~ The Sand Castle - Architectural Gold tan mirror Boutique hotel. With 14 rooms in Tower and two story townhouses on Marina full through.

Notice that Tower falls on Marina side giving open air space to neighboring building.  Pink Level is optional Ballroom.

The Hotel Suites provide a rare find. 6 Bedroom 2 story Suites as hotel rooms. Other rooms range from full open penthouses to full thru second penthouse. With or without Ballroom, the tower makes a nice 3D structure.

By using the Sand Castle genre with high tech glass. Goes beyond Postmodernism to Cartoonism. Note glass can be electrified to be solid or clear. Clear or gold. With use of gas like neon light the glass go from clear to solid. Or maybe just Hurricane resistant glass.

Ballroom in Purple can be a replica of the Park Avenue Waldorf Astoria yet with glass walls. The View will be the Atlantic Ocean and Intercoastal.

New Swimming Hall of Fame. Either of two alternatives. One leave the way it is and just refurbish. Parking as is is fine. With all the new parking it really is not an issue.

On the other hand. Like in Rowes Wharf in Boston.You can build the structure up and down at the same time. Saving Time and money. A three level parking structure can be placed under the entire footprint of site foot allowing a very large garage.Including housing buses. All under the water level. The Museum will be on Intercoastal with Ballroom on first floor. You can access the intercoastal Ballroom via 3rd sub level valet parking. Elevator from parking to ballroom or by walking from street.

Special Edition: The Playboy Diet

The Playboy Diet

1. Eating gives you fuel and energy. Knowing what time to eat such as protein which gives you energy 6 hours later is important. So before bed you might want to load up on protein in order to wake up strong. A few pieces of cheese a hard boiled egg I hour before bed.

2. Breakfast is most important meal of day. And will give you energy thought out morning making you less croggy, irritable and the food will act like a calming drug. The best is a full oatmeal meal or a smoothie for the time conscious. More later on Breakfast.

3. Sex drive. Its all about Protein. When you have sex in order to stay up and have great climax the key is again protein. So fall in love with cheese. Again with protein this needs to be taken 6 hours before act.

4. Carbs also need to be taken 6 hours beforehand. Which is why runners load up on carbs the night before.

Food for energy. Feeling sluggish throughout your day. One word Magnesium - Power Food.
List: Spinach, Quinoa, Brown Rice, Black Beans, Kidney Beans and Lentil beans are high in Magnesium. I suggest for the beans try Whole foods or other organic soaps with Lentil, Black beans or spit pea.

Also simple energy Mag. breakfast: Shredded Wheat, Oat Meal, 2 slices of whole wheat bread, 2 banana’s
Like to thank Dr. Oz for this list.

My Oatmeal which is made fresh takes 5 min to make and won't be hungry till 1-2 pm. Bring water to boil, reduce heat to 3 simmer add oats. While that is heating sprinkle in Cinnamon. Add to you large bowl: Sliced Banana, 2 prunes, a few walnuts and a spoon full of expensive french Jelley and milk to breakup contents.

Oatmeal, Cinnamon, Banana(small), 2-3 prunes, a few walnuts and spoon Jelly, add organic milk.

Purple foods
Purple Cabbage I place in my salad, and it does wonders. Your gas will stink, but that's the toxins leaving your body. 

Plums - Fruit

Orange foods - Vitamin A.
Carrots, Orange and Yellow Peppers in salad or steamed(not baked), Sweet Potatoes(remember the skin on a potato is were all the nutrition are. And finally Oranges.

Garlic - a known detox and builds your immune system. You can eat very small pieces raw. But best to break up the garlic to ¼ inch pieces place in Olive oil and toast for 1min, turning as not to burn. You do not want dark brown garlic..but light brown. You can also after the garlic has been cooking to add minced garlic for the last 5 min.
Add garlic and infused oil to pasta by itself or with red sauce. I place garlic in Metal container and place in toaster over. Make sure garlic is in pool of Olive oil

Spices like Curry and Cayenne pepper to chicken dishes is also very health as it builds up immune system and is a known inflammatory.



The Smoothie Breakfast or daytime pick me up.....not in the eve as the sugar will keep you up at night. First go buy yourself a container or decanter that you can pour 3-4 smoothies in and have for more then one day. Make sure has tight lid so when in fridge you take out shake container and pour. Easy breakfast and don't have to clean the blender everyday.


Oprah's favorite smoothie is: Strawberry, Banana and Soy Milk. Until I win the lotto I can’t afford to buy fresh strawberries. So if you go to you supermarket in frozen aisle you will find in plastic pouches Mango, Pineapple “Pulp”. The Pulp gives you 100% vitamin A, and 100% fiber.
Just thor out pulp before add to blender.
So: Mango Pulp, 2 bananas, Choc. soy/ and a little organic milk mixture.

You can store Smoothie in Decanter or a small coffee thermos shake and have again at another time.


Detoxing for The Playboy
1. Garlic

2. Royally Hot Bath - 1st you will have to raise your boiler to max. 2nd if your tub is larger than standard you may have to add a Big pot of Boiling water. The temp of bath should be very hot, around 103 degrees. If you place hand in and test the water without harming you hand its hot enough.
Add Epsom salt. Most bubble baths contain know toxic EDTA, even Avenno. So basic epsom salt is fine. Once you enter the Hot bath tub you will feel the toxins pouring out of your body.

3. Soups - Lentil or bean soaps at Whole foods or Organic
                 Egg drop wonton - high in protein.

4. Avoid taking Pills to sleep. If you work out, doing training, Yoga, Biking or swimming you will be so tired when get to bed. Your brain will put you to sleep in order to rejuvenate your muscles.

5. Drugs or Medicine: If it was not grown from the earth but is a chemical or synthetic like drug such as: “ecstasy”,  Oxycontin, Meth or Crack these are toxins that have horrible side effects. If you took a “X” pill and was made poorly you could die. Meth and Crack will result in loss of teeth, face legions and to top it off since its hard to stop the person will go bankrupt lose all forms of reality and spiral down a path that is literally so hard to change course. Its like the nuclear bomb should have never been invented since it destroys.

Marijuana - When I was in high school pot had a very low THC level. See movie “Savages’ So know if you smoke “roses” you will be very stoned, less is more. With today’s roses you can be considered legally intoxicated not to mention falling asleep at the wheel. Which is why George Micheal was arrested falling asleep at night at parks on more than one occasion.

Cocaine - Poppy
Heroin - Poppy
Morphine - Poppy
Opium - Poppy. All grown in Afghanistan ? and Colombia ?
I won’t go into the politics of these subject. Just stating you need to be a very disciplined person if going to partake. Luckily you won’t be able to get medical Morphine or Opium so its a non starter. Regarding Heroin see Crack and Meth. starting this drug will lead to financial ruin.

So that’s the truth there are good drugs and or medicine and then there are the ones you can never touch.

It’s like if you are a gambler, no one will trust you with money if you have a drug vice you can not stop.

Allergies: Get shots taking the over the counter pills is destroying your immune system and makes face puffy as well. Shots are cleaner.


6. Toxins in your Bathroom - EDTA a known carcinogen toxic is found in most products at CVS and Walgreens. So your shampoo and soap are adding toxins to your body and actually make you stupid with side effects.

Aluminum in deodorant causes breast cancer and now I hear Alzheimer's. 

If shopping in Brand stores by Tom’s of Maine - toothpaste, underarm det. or try new Arm and Hammer, alum and papa free. Shaving cream by “Nivea” has no EDTA or other cancer causing such as Blue, green chemicals added to our products.

The Best Bath products are: Aveda (shampure) and L'Occitane brick soap. You might pay 2 dollars more for these products but a least you're not adding toxins to your body. Since FDA won’t protect America, the Internet will, by telling the people the truth. WF also has healthy bath products.

7. Yoga classes - Ultimate in calming and detox. The some of the positions are designed to rid the toxins from your spine. When in class or with a book find out what “Fire Breathing” is. You close one nostril breath through the other one and breath out. Then switch Nostrils this brings oxygen directly to the brain. Yoga might look easy but when you wake up the next day you will start to fell a lot of muscles you never felt before.
When at home doing Yoga or not try on your Pandora: Tibetan monks of Garden..just skip over chanting becomes a bit much. Yoga classes is a great place to meet intel fit woman.

8. Whole Foods - is not more expensive the larger supermarkets in fact for some items its less expensive. Such as their brand cheese, chips and salsa all less expensive as well as produce. The fish and meats are expensive as i prepared food. But at least you're not getting Genetically Modified food now brand in Russia thanks to Putin. Its funny if GM foods are adding chemicals which cost money the organic should be less expensive. All soaps and bathroom products at WF is also clean of toxins.

Detox through water - 2 liters of water daily you will be pissing out the toxins. Do not buy bottle water as it lies on the shelf of months if not years and your are drinking plastic. If you freeze a water bottle and then drink you are now eating and drinking more plastic as the frezze breaks off plastic.

So best to have a filter in fridge, under sink or Brita’s newest filter.

Also when drinking alcohol you might want to eat beforehand and during the drinking celebration. Will Farrell movie “ were going out drinking  woow” that makes it a social or an experience that does not occur so often.
So have a glass of water after 2-3 rd drink.

Also water is a good way to break up any drugs in your system. Like Caffeine if had to much have a glass of water. It breaks it down. Same goes true for all drugs. Will lessen the effects.

Blue, Green and Red in our candy and Chips: Scientists have recently discovered the cause of ADHD in kids. Its called M&M and gummies with food coloring in it. As well as Doritos and other chips with food coloring. The Manufacturing can find colors to add naturally they just decide not to again the FDA’s fault.

Electrolytes the old fashion way. Dr. Oz just a few weeks ago with the Gatorade scandal said we don't need sports drinks. Just add your favorite juice mine is cranberry(kidney detox) and water in a decanter. Done saving money in the long run. Just find a good thermos that does not spill when want to take on the road, gym or work.  

Caffeine will kill you - Batman movie with Jim Carey. Energy drinks are a big no no. as they increase the caffeine. I have 1-2 small cups of coffee in AM. Sumatra is the best. Dark bold roasts has more caffine but you end up drinking less then lighter weaker coffee. A coffee cup should be small not a soup mug.

Sugar fix - Coke is out, diet coke will kill you. Try making Tea yourself add water and cranberry juice. 100 of options to choose from. Then add 1-2 bags of sugar. It’s better than the sugar they put in your soda whether the sugar is real or now artificial sugar the kills rats like Crystal light. 

A cigar - George burns started smoking cigars at age 13 he lived to be 100 years old. Today we have grape, vanilla and cognac cigars that are pure chemicals toxins breathing into your lungs. For the smart smoker a small cigar free of flavors is the answer. Dutch Master makes Palma individual wrapped for freshness, and as far as I can tell is only tobacco. It should be noted that Obama Federal government is taking away the "roll your own" stores. Where Americans can roll there own cig's thereby leaving out the 300 toxins the FDA approves of and saving money in the process. 

Candles: Thank to Chuck Lorrie of the Big Bang Theory I have learned that most candles not made with Soy base are toxic. Toxic as in the same that causes 2nd hand smoke cancer. So don't close your window and light a candle. Luckily Publix my local supermarket carries Essential Elements from Candle~lite, made in the USA with help from France for ingredients.

Sun Lotion - A must have for all playboys. But guess what all and everyone of the sun lotion in all stores has EDTA. Finally found one alternative yesterday. Called Solar Sense - clear zinc. made in Canada.
Says paraben & Oxybenzone free. Guess someone forgot to tell the US FDA. 

Socks to bed - Dr. Oz suggest warming rice and place in socks. I choose to were wool socks. You sleep much better, simple and it works. Remember your body heat escape through the head and the feet.

Limit your vices. Sex should be the best vice you can have.
